Hello my lovelies! Today is a special day because hubby and I mark seven years together; it’s our wedding anniversary! I loved this Mr. Grey from our very first encounter. He pursued me with such vigour and dedication that I could not believe such love existed. I am one of the lucky ones that I was raised by a dad who showed us what real love should look like; I wasn’t confused about that and I always knew I’d recognise it when I saw it, and I did. Additionally, my Christian background had taught me Christ’s sacrificial love for the church; so when my hubby mirrored that love to me, I recognised it too.
We all dream of being loved unconditionally, like my dad loved me, like God loves humanity. And though conventional wisdom would argue (and successfully I might add) that humans, particularly spouses, can only love conditionally, I submit that Mr. Grey’s love for me is as close to unconditional as any love could be. He has loved me when I was bratty and unlovable, sick and bedridden, broken and grief-stricken, stubborn and difficult. He has loved me the same when I have been easy to love.
This great love –my daddy demonstrated it to me; church taught me about it; hubby lives it out with me. He has taught me how to live out everything I have picked up about positive love along the way. He has given me space to grow and experiment to see what works in a marital love and what doesn’t. Like me, he has his flaws. Yet these do not diminish the great man that he is, or how worthy he is of my love and respect. My joy is to love and honour him, as his is to love me ‘perfectly’ everyday.
This post launches a new ‘LOVING’ category on my blog. As a verb, ‘Loving’ is an action word that required continuous active engagement. As a proper noun, it pays homage to the name of a couple that made my particular kind of love legal. This will be a corner where I’ll share my love journey with my hubby and all the trial and error methods we use to keep the flame burning bright this far out. Check in from time to time and please do share your own stories in the comment section below. I love a good old love story and would love to hear about your own great loves. I love ‘love’ and in my opinion, it is the most inspiring part of life.
From one lucky girl who gets to live out her days with her great love.
