God Within and Without

3 minutes

If you seek peace, be still. If you seek wisdom, be silent. If you seek love, be yourself. Today’s post is about becoming that which we seek. We’ve heard it said ‘be the change you wish to see’ by Gandhi, ‘treat others as you wish to be treated yourself’, ‘be the friend to someone else that you wish you had’. Yet often we continue to look outside of ourselves for the fulfilment we are seeking inside. It will serve us well to understand that ‘when there is no enemy within, the enemy without cannot hurt us’.

If you seek peace, be still: There is no peace without if there is war within. A house divided against itself shall not stand. The peace we seek from outside persons, outside activities is actually to be found deep inside us instead. Cultivating habits such as spending time in meditation will bring us the quiet we crave, the calm we desire, the peace we seek.

If you seek wisdom, be silent: Almost all problems in any relationship, professional or personal, can be traced back to rush words spoken in turn. Pardon the language, but there’s a reason we have a set of ears and just one mouth. Great conversationalist are recognised as that because they listen well.

There is wisdom in silence. My younger sister Terry is always slow to speak, listening intently. She’s deliberate and measured in her words, unwilling to give unsolicited advice -she’s a wise woman. Wisdom is found in the depths of active listening and passive silence. Whereas the soul always knows what to do to heal itself; the challenge lies in silencing the mind. If you seek wisdom, be silent.

If you seek love, be yourself: This is the scariest of the concepts. Who will love me if I show myself for who I truly am? Someone did. Someone always will. Love is an inside job, we must love all of ourselves and have the courage to believe that another will too. There is someone for everyone, every single time. The myth that one gender outnumbers another is just that -a myth. If you seek love, be yourself. Love yourself exactly where you are; there’s someone for each one of us.

I’ll leave you with those three thoughts to ponder as I’m busy running around getting things done and feeling good about myself, I hope you do too. Lovely December coming along nicely, I hope for you as well. Cheers, Grey ღ

The blogpost really spoke to me. Especially the part about silencing the noise if we’re seeking wisdom. I need to grow more in this area and I’ll set an intention for 2019. Thank you for the gentle reminder.

Love this message! Being oneself means loving oneself. When we love ourselves, it attracts others to do the same. Great post, Helena.
