Spending Time in the Word

3 minutes

Dear reader, I’ve been gone for a while. April saw me get on a flight to spend a month in Texas visiting with my sisters with mama joining in as well. The weather is beautiful down there, we spent many a lazy afternoon on a mat under the tree in the backyard trading jokes and swapping stories. From reports back home, it was apparent I had escaped some inclement weather up north where they had snow well into the month. Though we had our own frightful thundering of hailstorms the size of golfballs, that cleared right up and we went right back to sunshine. I am grateful for sunny Texas, which allowed me to get a head start on summer this year. I finally came back up East a month later as mummy-duty called.

My life continues to move in orbit around all-things-God and he hasn’t loosened his firm loving grip on me, not even on my adventures. God continues to be so good to me, showering me with his mercies and loving kindness each new day of my beautiful life here on earth. I initially felt guilty about all the free time I have, seemingly not doing much, but my loving father gently reminded me that the depths to which he wants me to know him necessitated that he clear my schedule so I can spend all this time with him. Indeed, I had heard it said that getting to know God intimately can be a full-time job. I’m grateful that he’s graciously provided me with this abundance of time, and so I gladly dedicate it back to him to do with as he pleases.

Once I understood that this is exactly where God wants me in this season of my life, learning about him full-time, I was able to relax into it and truly enjoy getting to know him as friend. As he promised in his word, he has continued to consistently supply all my needs according to his riches in glory (Phil 4:19), I have wanted for nothing as his blessings to me continually overflow. As he says in Matthew 6:25, we are not to worry about clothing or sustenance. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you (Matt 6:33). By his grace, he has enabled me to do this, and on his part, he has faithfully added all things unto me -glory hallelujah! My Father does not lie, what he says he will do, he does (numbers 23:19; Isaiah 38:7; 1 Thes. 5:24), exceedingly, abundantly, above all we could ask or think! (Ephesians 3:20).

My life is currently a full-time frenzy of bible study classes. My father has seen it fit to take me deeper into his word and he has faithfully supplied me with teachers to walk with me on this path that he is leading me on. Adonai has ensured that the dirt in the field of my heart is ploughed, and now the seed of the word of God is being planted deep in my heart and my responsibility after each class is to water the seed, to pull up the weeds, to protect it from excessive sun (trials and tribulations) so the roots go deep enough to reach the water table for vital nutrients. I am thriving as my father continues to tend to me, planting me by streams of living water so I’ll never run dry so long as I stay close to him, and I’m assured he’ll never let go of me. My God will never leave me nor forsake me, of this I’m sure, for he has promised.

My father’s word continues to take root in my heart, and through consistency, an expectant outlook, diligence, and patience; the seed of the word of God continues to grow slowly. Eventually, it will become fully grown, mature and ripen, producing a harvest, a crop of sizable proportions. This is the will of the Lord, that we grow in the knowledge of him. We are told in Luke 2:52 that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature. It is the father’s will that we grow in the same way. Because of these Bible study classes that God has so generously arranged for me, I feel my father has purposed to mold and shape me in this season of my life, so I can resemble him more and more. And who am I to object?! I am having the time of my life unravelling secrets from my father. In fact, it’s safe to say that should you need me, find me in the word : ) The journey continues…
